Last week, the Senate passed its budget for fiscal year 2025.

During the budget debate, senators added 475 amendments. Of the education amendments that were adopted, several were for early education and care items. These amendments include:

• adding $450,000 for Jumpstart [in line item 3000-1000]

• adding $250,000 for ParentChild+ [3000-7052]

• adding “Head Start and Early Head Start programs” to the eligibility language in C3 line items, and

• adding EEC reporting requirements for the Early Education and Out of School Time Capital Fund, and reporting on an analysis of child care that’s provided by family, friends, and neighbors

Next up in the budget process, a six-member conference committee will negotiate differences between the House and Senate budgets.
