Congratulations to Little Cocoa Bean Company, the food company that focuses on kids and just had its grand opening at the Boston Children’s Museum!
As Little Cocoa Bean’s Instagram page explains, the organization and its supporters gathered at the museum to “BLOOM (Bring Light, Opportunity, and Optimism through Meals)” and celebrate the new location.
Little Cocoa Bean was founded by Tracy Skelly, a mom who was going back to work and couldn’t find “baby foods with the culturally diverse flavors and nutrient content that she sought for her daughter.”
Little Cocoa Bean began as a kid-friendly cafe in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. The goal was to offer meals that would be nutritious and fun in a kid-friendly environment.
As we’ve blogged, Skelly considers feeding children well to be a matter of food justice. Now, she’s hoping to reach thousands of additional families at the museum. To do this, Skelly is adding a charitable, crowd-sourced component called “Little Cocoa Bean’s Feed the Future Campaign: Free meals at our museum cafe for children from income constrained families.”
The campaign’s goal is to raise $50,000 so that Little Cocoa Bean can “introduce even more families to our mission while providing a thoughtfully designed space where kids can eat, play, and explore, and caregivers can take a much-needed moment to relax.”
“Economic empowerment is at the heart of everything we do. We hire from within our community, pay competitive wages, and are actively working toward an employee-owned model by the end of 2025, ensuring that the people who build our business also share in its success.”
Be sure to check Little Cocoa Bean out the next time you’re at the museum!
